Less focal point that can be calibrated is really a step back. However when Sigma hold approximately a third of the lens market they should really have pushed harder with this one. It offers a phenomenal focal range for the price and this should not be undervalued. Obviously we approach a review from a different angle to most.

To be brutally frank we were disappointed. This of course could be a one off and a more accurate assessment can only be made over time and with more examples. We also found that this particular example needed less in terms of correction, especially at the 600mm end than the 150-600’s that we see. You will need a FoCal account, which can be created for free from within the app.We were pleased to see though was the fact that with this new lens, unlike others in the Sigma range, it was not necessary to convert the calculated values from Reikan’s Focal software / Canon’s af micro adjustment / Nikon’s AF Fine Tune menu before entering the numbers into the Focus settings menu* FoCal requires the use of a FoCal Target, which you can download and print using links from within the app, or purchase from the FoCal store. For iPad with USB-C, you can directly connect to the camera with just an appropriate cable. For iPhone and iPad with lightning connectors, you will require a Lightning to USB Adapter in order to connect a camera - further details are provided in the app help, but a standard Lightning to USB adapter will workin most cases. * Connection is via USB or the Reikan Wireless Camera Control Module. Calibrate and analyse lenses with focal lengths over 400mm. One-tap Time Sync - synchronise your camera time with one tap right from the first screen of FoCal. Export data to FoCal Pro Desktop for more detailed analysis, charting, reports and more. Review historical data, recall tests and calibrations you've run to find out how your equipment is holding up. FoCal Comparison Database: compare the performance of your kit with 1,000s of other users to find out how it compares to *real-world* use, NOT artificial lab tests!
